ALT. SPRING BREAK

Alternative Spring Break 2017

Alternative Spring Break is a week-long experience in which college students from all over the nation have the opportunity to stay at Baytreat and participate in a Habitat for Humanity build near Mobile during their spring break.  Participants check-in on Sunday after 4:00 p.m. and check-out on Friday at 9:00 a.m. The cost for each participant is $200, which includes 5 nights of lodging and 14 meals.

We coordinate the food, lodging, and 3-4 days of work with Habitat for Humanity with the option for other urban ministry opportunities upon request.  Groups which choose to work 3 days with Habitat have the option for a day at the beach or other activities on Thursday.  In the evenings we will have time to relax, recreate, and reflect at Baytreat conference center, located on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Throughout the week, participants will be guided in reflections about what home means to them, and the issues facing the people for and with whom we are building the homes.

Participants arrive Sunday for a cook-out dinner, work Monday through Friday morning with Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County or other urban ministry activities, enjoy Friday afternoon at the beach and dinner at a local restaurant, and depart Saturday following breakfast and clean-up. Participation is limited to the first 32 reservations we receive for each week. One college/university sponsor must accompany every 8 college student participants. Although our maximum capacity is 32 participants per week, we encourage smaller groups to participate. We will work to combine several smaller groups for a rich experience.
